Our refrigerator GUI was featured at Embedded World, the largest trade show of embedded technologies in the world. In addition to normal dispensing operations, the dynamic nature of touchscreens provided opportunity to get creative and add features such as automatically displaying the volume of water as it’s being dispensed.

Touchscreen interfaces would be easier to use if we designed them with finger paints. We stop “designing” this way the day we graduate from kindergarten, but think about it. Can you be sure a button will be large enough for a user to push? Will her hand cover up anything important? …
